Wrote an Instagram blurb on “beauty” today:

I want to see women captured as more than pretty/tempting/beautiful on camera. Beauty is impermanent and shouldn’t be our license to be seen. I’m not sure what that entails for my art yet, but I’d like to work towards changing things.

Here’s a self portrait to start: showing you the wear in my face—the blackheads, discoloration, rings around my neck. Signs of life that are deemed “un-beautiful.” Maybe a more posed, angled, edited photo would’ve been more attractive on my part. But i want our creations as women to have a level of story-telling and honesty that’s attractive in itself. Because women are dynamic human beings, with more to offer than just being beautiful.
